Norwegian company to bring up to 250 jobs to Mesquite
A Norwegian manufacturer focused on zero emission products will move ahead with plans to open a facility in Mesquite that could employ hundreds.
Hexagon Purus signed an agreement with commercial vehicle manufacturer Hino Motors in March 2023 and began its quest to find the right site for capacity to not only support existing contracts, but to grow. It also entered into a strategic agreement with Daimler Truck North America to incorporate Hexagon Purus technology into electric freightliners.
The Oslo-based company’s search led it to North Texas, where it will install lithium-ion batteries for its vehicle partners.
The company identified the Dallas area because it screened well on key criteria for the company: operating costs tied to utilities, labor and leasing; proximity to suppliers, such as Panasonic in Kansas, and customers; availability of labor force; and transportation costs.
“With what we know today, the new facility in Dallas will provide sufficient floor space to deliver on both the Hino and Daimler contracts,” a company spokesperson told The Dallas Morning News.
Hexagon Purus was also keen on the fact that a workable factory was already in place in Mesquite at Landmark at East Meadows, along East Meadows Blvd. near Interstate 30.
The company will start finishing out a 216,000-square-foot building in April, adding office space and a production floor area for installing lithium-ion batteries into trucks, a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows. The work, designed by MJDII Architects Inc., is expected to be delivered in August.
Hexagon Purus is experiencing strong commercial momentum in the U.S. and expects that to continue based on demand as more companies pursue zero-emission alternatives.
The facility in Texas allows for further expansion to support continued customer growth, the company spokesperson said.
While the company’s battery systems and vehicle integration businesses are not currently producing meaningful revenue, it projects it will start to do so in 2025 when it starts delivering for Hino and Daimler.
Hexagon Purus is hiring for roles in Mesquite. Available jobs include warehouse and logistics management and engineering, as well as manufacturing, production and operations in the second half of the year.
If Hexagon Purus chooses to expand in the area, it could manufacture battery modules and packs, something the company could find enticing since the product qualifies for Inflation Reduction Act subsidies, a tool meant in part to incentivize companies and individuals pursuing clean-energy options.
